‘Multi-sensory Stories for SEND students’

Susie will be presenting her lively webinar on  ‘Multi-sensory Stories for SEND students’. This is based on over 25 years working at The Sixth Form College, Farnborough. She will discuss her own experiences as a teacher and light-bulb moments as a parent using innovative multi-sensory teaching techniques to raise students’ self-confidence to reach their full potential. This will involve simple ways to unlock information using various resources and assistive technology as well as  tried and tested scaffolding for students to create and accomplish an amazing story with competence and confidence.

Following the publication of her first book ‘The Multi-sensory Teaching Toolkit’, she was commissioned by Oaka Books to write ‘How to Become a Grade Riser’ which is specifically designed to help students to pass exams.

The key learning objectives:

• To showcase a variety of tried and tested multi-sensory teaching and learning strategies providing essential scaffolding leading to personalization of learning to enable dyslexic students to reach their full potential and achieve stellar results.

Outcomes for learners:

• For the delegates to be able to use specific techniques some of which are listed in her ‘Multi-sensory Teaching Toolkit’ and ‘How to Become a Grade Riser’ books as well as from the latest ‘Dyslexia Friendly Schools Good Practice Guide’.

Demographic: it would be useful for parents, teachers, specialist teaching assistants, SENDCo’s and other educational professionals.

Presented by Dr Susie Nyman – Curriculum Manager for Health and Social Care
