“Insomnia Disorder is listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th ed (DSM-5). Research indicates bidirectional links between Insomnia Disorder and mental health: anxiety, depression, low levels of resilience, emotional dysregulation, hyperarousal, substance abuse in adolescents, quality of life, non-fatal self-harm, suicidal ideation, and suicide. Work needs to be done in schools and at home to prevent insomnia from taking hold and thus improve resilience and mental health, and as a result improve learning outcomes. The speaker will look at findings of international research and offer ways forward to help identify and manage this issue.”
